Sports

With it's wonderful climate and large areas of flatland, Florida is ideal for lovers of the outdoors.

You'll find plenty of facilities for all kinds of activities.

If you want a day off from the theme parks, stay at home for a swim in The Abbey's pool or play Golf on the Champions Gate course at the entrance to the estate.

Community tennis courts are due to be built by 2005.

Baseball

Baseball training begins in late February then in March friendly games are played in the Grapefruit League and are hugely popular.  The Florida Marlins were the state's first major baseball team, followed by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, based in St Petersburg.

Basketball

Basketballis a sport fairly new to Florida, the only teams in the NBA here are the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat.

Football

The Miami Dolphins, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Jacksonville Jaguars are the three Florida football  teams in the NFL.  The home season runs from September to December.

Rodeos

Two big rodeos happen each year at Arcadia, although in February and July Kissimmee stages the Great Silver Spurs Rodeo.

Motor Racing

Take on the Nascar racing experience of the international speedway at Daytona (just 30 miles from Orlando) for a breathtaking, interactive ride. Specially conceived for those car fanatics, get a buzz from the speed.

Alternatively, ride shotgun in a stock car driven by a professional instructor at the Richard Petty driving experience at Disney. If you're willing to pay a bit more, you can have a go driving laps yourself.

Water Sports

Cruise through the beautiful lakes and canals of Winter Park or along the Atlantic coast.

There are many options for deep sea fishing and river cruises on the coast in charter boats.  Commonly caught fish include: cobia, snapper, grouper, sea bass, marlin, yellowfin tuna.

Adventure Sports

Free-fall skydiving at SkyVenture on International Drive allows you to float on a column of air.

For a less nerve-wracking activity, try drifting lazily in a hot air balloon, while enjoying a champagne picnic.

You can hire bikes and blades at places like the West Orange Trail for a scenic, active tour along the shore of Lake Apopka.

Crazy golf can be played at many different sites along the I4 and International Drive, such as Pirate's Cove.
